Flash Player didn't download or didn't install | Safari
Follow these steps if you are having trouble downloading or installing the latest version of Flash Player.
1. Check whether an older version of Flash Player is already installed

3. Uninstall Flash Player
Uninstall Flash Player. For details, go to the top of this page and choose "I want to uninstall Flash Player."
4. If Flash Player is not installed, download the installer
- Go to the Adobe Flash Player Download page.
- Click the Download Now button to download the latest version of Flash Player.
The Downloads window appears. - If you don’t see the Downloads window, in Safari, select Windows > Downloads.
- Ensure that the Flash Player installer is downloaded to your computer.
- Install the latest version of Flash Player. To see details, go to step 5 below.
5. Install the latest version of Flash Player
- To open the installer, double-click the install_flash_player_osx file that you downloaded.
A window containing the Flash Player installer appears.
Note: Sometimes the window with the installer is hidden from the view. If you can’t see the Flash Player installer, continue with step 2. If you see the installer on your desktop, go to step 3.
- To view the Flash Player installer window on your desktop, minimize all opened windows. In Finder that is displayed on the top-left corner of the desktop, choose Go > Desktop. From the Devices section, click Flash Player.
- Double-click the Flash Player installer
to begin the installation. Depending on your settings, you may see a warning asking if you want to open the installer. Click Open.
- In the Installer, select the check box to indicate that you have read and agree to the terms of the license agreement.
After you select the check box, the Install button is enabled. - Click Install.
- Type the user name and password of your computer.
- When you see the message “Installation succeeded,” click Done.
You have successfully installed Flash Player.
- Close and then reopen your browser.
Flash Player didn't download or didn't install | Chrome
The latest Google Chrome browser (32-bit) comes with Adobe Flash Player installed. If you use Chrome, you don’t have to download Flash Player separately.
How do I install the latest version of Flash Player in Chrome?
You don't have to download new versions of Flash Player. Chrome is automatically updated when new versions of Flash Player are available. Sometimes updates are delayed.
Verify that you have the latest version of Chrome
The latest version of Chrome includes the latest version of Flash Player.
- Choose Chrome > About Google Chrome.
If you see a message that “Google Chrome is up-to-date,” Chrome has the latest version of Flash Player. - If Chrome is not up-to-date, click the Update Now button.
Flash Player didn't download or didn't install | Firefox
Follow these steps if you are having trouble downloading or installing the latest version of Flash Player.

3. Uninstall Flash Player

4. If Flash Player is not installed, download the installer
- Go to the Adobe Flash Player Download page to get the latest version of Flash Player.
- Click Downlaod now.
- If you see a dialog box as displayed below, choose Save File and click OK.
- If the Downloads window is not displayed, in FireFox, select Tools > Downloads to display the Downloads window.
- Ensure that the Flash Player installer is downloaded to your computer.
- Install the latest version of Flash Player. To see details, go to step 5 below.
5. Install the latest version of Flash Player
- To open the installer, double-click the install_flash_player_osx file that you downloaded.
A Flash Player installer window appears.
Note: Sometimes the window with the installer is hidden from the view. If you can’t see the Flash Player installer, continue with step 2. If you see the installer on your desktop, skip to step 3.
- To view the Flash Player installer window on your desktop, minimize all opened windows. In Finder that is displayed on the top-left corner of the desktop, choose Go > Desktop. From the Devices section, click Flash Player.
- Double-click the Flash Player installer to begin the installation.
Depending on your settings, you may see a warning message asking whether to open the installer. - Click Open.
- Select the check box to indicate that you have read and agree to the terms of the license agreement.
After you select the check box, the Install button is enabled.
- Click Install.
- Type the user ID and password of the computer and click OK.
- When you see the message “Installation succeeded,” click Done.
You have successfully installed Flash Player.
- Close and then reopen your browser.
The download didn't work
Sometimes Downloads window is hidden. Choose Windows > Downloads (Safari and Chrome) or Tools > Downloads (Firefox) to see whether the installer has been downloaded. If it has been downloaded already, go to the top of this page, select “I’m having problems downloading and installing Flash Player,” and follow the directions.
If Flash Player has not been downloaded, try the following troubleshooting tips:
• Check your hard disk for available space
Ensure that your hard drive has enough free space to save Flash Player installer. To increase free space, delete unnecessary files and applications, and then use Apple's Disk Utility to repair the hard disk.
- From the Application folder, open the Utilities folder.
- Open Disk Utility.
- Select your disk from the list displayed at the left, and click First Aid.
- Follow the instructions displayed in the window.
For more information on repairing the disk, click the Help button (?) displayed in the window.
• Download at a different time of day
Try downloading when there is less activity on the Internet, such as late evening, early morning, or weekends.
• Use a different web browser
Use a different web browser, such as Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, or Google Chrome.
• Check the browser security level
- In Firefox, depending on your security settings, you may get a warning before Flash Player is installed. Click Open to start the installation.
- In Safari, you can speed up the download by choosing Safari > Preferences and selecting Open "Safe" Files After Downloading.
- In Chrome, security features are available from the Preferences menu. Select Chrome > Preferences, and click the Under The Hood tab. Scroll to the Security section. Google advises users not to change these settings, and security-level issues are rare in Chrome.
• Check firewall or network software
- If you installed download manager software for downloading applications from the Internet, or if you run firewall or network (proxy) software, disable or remove the software.
- Contact the manufacturer to ensure that the hardware works as expected and is not damaged or incorrectly configured.
- If you connect to the Internet through a firewall or proxy server, verify that those settings are correct. Contact your network administrator for assistance.
I thought I downloaded, but I keep getting the message to download again | Safari

4. Determine the right version of Flash Player for your system
The appropriate version of Flash Player depends on the version of Mac OS X on your computer. You can encounter installation issues if you try to install a wrong version. You chose either Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5, or 10.6 when asked to select an operating system earlier. To verify your Mac OS version, follow these steps:
- From the Apple menu, select About This Mac.
A window appears with the operating system version as shown below:
- If you don't see version 10.4.x, 10.5.x or 10.6.x, you chose the wrong operating system before. Go to the top of this page and choose "What operating system are you using?"
You can install the latest version, Flash Player 10.1, on Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5, or 10.6. Check your browser settings.
5. Check your browser settings
The browser should enable plug-ins and JavaScript for using Flash Player.
Safari enables these features by default. Verify the settings in Safari.
- Select Safari > Preferences.
- Select the Security tab.
- Ensure that the options Enable Plug-ins and Enable JavaScript are selected.
Firefox enables JavaScript by default. Verify the settings
- Select Tools > Options.
- Select the Content tab.
- Ensure that the Enable JavaScript option is selected.
Google Chrome enables JavaScript by default. Verify the settings
- Select Chrome > Preferences.
- Select Under The Hood and click Content Settings.
- In the Content Settings window, select JavaScript.
- Ensure that the option Allow All Sites To Run JavaScript is selected.
6. Install the latest version of Flash Player
At the top of this page, choose "I want to learn how to download and install Flash Player." If you still have problems after installing the latest version, try reinstalling your browser.
7. Reinstall your browser
If you still have problems, install the latest version of your browser. Download the latest installer for Intel-based Macs from the following websites:

Observe the Processor description. As shown in the first image above, the name, Intel, is displayed for Intel-based Mac machines.
I'm having problems using Flash Player on my older Macintosh computer
Note: On Mac OS X 10.1-10.3, browsers installed by default may not show this page or the Adobe Flash Player download page properly. To fix this issue, install a compatible version of any browser, such as Firefox.
Adobe Flash Player 10 and later versions do not work properly on Mac OS X 10.1-10.3 operating systems. Install Flash Player 9 instead.
Uninstall Flash Player
Install a new version of Flash Player after uninstalling the existing version. For details, go to the top this page and choose "I want to uninstall Flash Player."
Determine the type of processor in your Mac
- Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner.
- Select About This Mac.
Observe the Processor description. As shown in the first image above, the name, Intel, is displayed for Intel-based Mac machines. If the word, PowerPC, is in the description, you have a PowerPC-based Mac.
Install Flash Player 9
Choose the appropriate download link for your Mac's processor:
- Mac OS X (Intel): Download (4.46 MB)
Follow the installer instructions:
- Mac OS X (PowerPC): Download (2.99 MB)
The PowerPC download contains two files. Follow these steps to install them:
- Download the Mac OS X (PowerPC) files.
- Firefox: In the Open dialog box, choose Save To Disk and click OK.
- Safari: The Downloads window appears with the Flash Player 9 installer.
- Open the installer.
- Firefox: If you don't see the Downloads window, choose Tools > Downloads. Click the Open link at the upper right of the Downloads window.
- Safari: If you don't see the Downloads window, choose Windows > Downloads. Double-click the installer in the Downloads window.
- Bookmark or print this page for reference. Read the next steps.
- Close all web browsers currently open on your computer.
You must close all browsers before installing Flash Player. - In the Flash Player installer window, select both the Flash Player.plugin and flashplayer.xpt files. Drag them into the Internet Plug-Ins folder, also in the installer window.
- Close and then reopen your browser.
- Go to the About Flash Player page to verify that Flash Player installed correctly. If the Flash Player is installed correctly, you see the Flash Player version.
Many websites do not support the older browsers that came with PowerPC systems. You may need to upgrade your browser. After installing the latest version of the browser, see this page to install Flash Player.
Video or audio isn't working
Follow recommendations for sound or video problems
Follow your computer manufacturer or website recommendations for sound or video problems, for example:
- Adjust the volume on your computer by pressing the F12 and F11 keys.
- Adjust the volume of the video in the website that you are viewing.
- Shut down and restart your computer.

Confirm that you want to allow the website's content to play on your computer
View the Settings Manager for your Flash Player installation.
- Control-click any content displayed in Flash Player.
- Select Global Settings.
The Settings Manager Help page appears. - Select the Global Storage Settings panel in the left column.
The Global Storage Settings Panel appears. - In the Global Storage Settings panel, select "Allow third-party content to store data on your computer."
• To view or change the privacy settings for websites that you have already visited, use the Website Privacy Settings panel.
• To view, change, or delete the storage settings for websites you have already visited, use the Website Storage Settings panel. - Close and then reopen your browser. Then, try playing a video.
Free network bandwidth and check your hardware configurations
Free as much network bandwidth as possible. For example, turn off applications that might be using bandwidth such as instant messengers, sharing applications, and so on.
Also ensure that your computer meets the minimum hardware configurations recommended for an optimal playback experience. See the table of recommended hardware configurations.
The webcam isn't working
Try the following fixes if you have trouble with the webcam.
Verify whether the built-in iSight camera is working
- Start iChat.
- Click Video > Video Preview.
A preview from the webcam appears. If not, your iSight camera is not functioning. For more information, see the Apple Troubleshooting Guide.
Close all applications that use the webcam
You can use the webcam with only one application at a time. Ensure that you exit all other applications that use the webcam, such as iChat, PhotoBooth, and Skype. Try using the webcam again.
Change the Camera option in Flash settings
- Control-click the blank webcam window. A pop-up menu appears.
- Click Settings.
- Click the webcam icon and change the camera options to USB Video Class Video.
- Click Close.
Uninstall Google voice and audio plug-ins
The GoogleVoiceAndVideoUninstaller.app is available in the Library/Application Support/Google folder.
Install the latest version of Flash Player plug-in

Uninstall Flip4Mac
Flip4Mac WMV uninstaller.pkg is available in the installation directory.
Verify whether the webcam is working
- Go to any web page that uses Flash with a webcam, such as www.testwebcam.com.
After the page loads, a pop-up window appears asking you to allow the website to access the camera and microphone. - Click Allow.
- Control-click the webcam area if it’s blank.
- Click Settings.
- Click the webcam icon and change the camera options to USB Video Class Video.
- Click Close.
I can't play my online game
Try the following if you have trouble playing your online game.
Clear your cache
Firefox
- Select Tools > Clear Recent History.
- Select the time range and click Clear Now.
- Close and then reopen Firefox.
Safari
- Choose Safari > Empty Cache.
- Click Empty.
- Close and then reopen Safari.
Google Chrome
- Select Chrome > Clear Browsing Data.
- Select the checkboxes as appropriate.
- Click Clear Browsing Data.
- Close and then reopen Chrome.
Make sure that you have JavaScript enabled
Firefox
- Select Tools > Options.
- Click Content.
- Select Enable JavaScript.
- Close the Preferences window and reload the browser.
Safari
- Select Safari > Preferences.
- Select the Security tab.
- Select Enable JavaScript.
- Close the Preferences window and reload the browser.
Google Chrome
- Select Chrome > Preferences.
- Click the Under The Hood tab.
- Click the Content Settings button.
- In the Content Settings window, select Allow All Sites To Run JavaScript.
Close any other applications that are connected to the Internet
Give your game exclusive access to the Internet.
Don't use a wireless connection
Try accessing the Internet using a wired connection (such as an Ethernet cable) rather than a wireless connection.
Disable pop-up blockers
These blockers monitor JavaScript processes. Games rely on these processes to function correctly.
Get the latest browser version
If you are still having problems, download and install the latest version of your browser from the browser manufacturer's website. Ensure to select the correct installer for the Mac system. You can get the latest versions of browsers from these websites:

Look at game forums or file a bug
Game forums, such as Farmville forums, often give solutions to user problems. You can also file a Flash Player bug and look at bugs reported by others.

- When the uninstaller starts, click Uninstall.
Important! You can run into problems if any applications are using Flash Player when you run the uninstaller. The uninstall seems successful, but not all Flash Player files are deleted. If you accidentally left any applications open, close all applications and run the uninstaller again. Applications that use Flash Player include web browsers such as Safari, instant messaging clients such as AOL Instant Messenger, stand-alone SWF applications (*.swf files), and projectors (*.exe files that play Flash content).
- Bookmark or print this page so that you can refer to the rest of these instructions after you quit your browser.
- Quit all browsers opened. Click the browser name to close the browser. Alternatively, you can manually close all browsers and click Retry.
Note: Clicking the Quit button stops the uninstall process. This button is not used for closing the browser.
- After you close the browsers, the uninstaller continues automatically until the uninstall is complete. When you see the message that the uninstall succeeded, click Done.
- Restart your browser. To verify that you uninstalled Flash Player, open your browser and return to this page.

Follow these steps to download and install the latest version of Flash Player.
1. Check whether an older version of Flash Player is already installed

If we don’t detect Flash Player on your computer, skip to step 4 below to download and install Flash Player.
2. Compare your version to the latest version of Flash Player
- Go to the About Flash Player page to find the latest version of Flash Player available for your browser.
The page also displays the version that we detect on your computer. - Compare these version numbers.
If the numbers match, you already have the latest version of Flash Player. Go to the top of this page and choose "I'm having a different problem." - If the version of Flash Player installed on your computer is not the latest version, go to step 3 below.
3. Uninstall Flash Player
Uninstall Flash Player. For details, go to the top of this page and choose "I want to uninstall Flash Player."
4. If Flash Player is not installed, download the installer
- Go to the Adobe Flash Player Download page.
- Click Downoad Now.
- The Downloads window appears.
- If you don’t see the Downloads window, choose Window > Downloads from the Safari menu. Ensure that the Flash Player installer is downloaded to your computer.
- Install Flash Player. To see details, go to step 5 below.
5. Install the latest version of Flash Player
- To open the installer, double-click the install_flash_player_osx file that you downloaded earlier.
A window containing the Flash Player installer appears on your desktop.
Note: Sometimes the window with the installer is hidden from view. If you can’t see the Flash Player installer, continue with step 2. If you see the installer on your desktop, skip to step 3.
- To view the Flash Player installer window on your desktop, minimize all opened windows. In Finder that is displayed on the top-left corner of the desktop, choose Go > Desktop. From the Devices section, click Flash Player.
- Double-click the Flash Player installer to begin the installation. Depending on your settings, you may see a warning asking if you want to open the installer. Click Open.
- In the Installer, select the check box to indicate that you have read and agree to the terms of the license agreement.
After you select the check box, the Install button is enabled. - Click Install.
- When you see a message "Installation succeeded," click Done.
You have successfully installed Flash Player. - Close and then reopen your browser.
